This week I will be speaking with Gideon Rose, editor of Foreign Affairs magazine, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. We will be discussing his book, How Wars End: Why We Always Fight The Last Battle. In the book he discusses American intervention from World War I to Afghanistan. The book is an incredibly provocative and insightful look into how America has gotten involved in major world conflicts and the way it has sought to resolve those conflicts. Mr. Rose seems to have very few ideological bones to pick. He draws from a vast amount of notes and resources to examine good and bad decisions that American leaders and Presidents have made throughout history.
I am looking forward to our conversation very much. I think history buffs will find the book to be a very fun read. I will try to ask Mr. Rose to imagine different historical counterfactuals, which should make for some fun thought experiments and interesting historical discussions.
